Central Park

According to "NYC Government Parks", Central Park is one of the most famous parks in the world and receives of 25 million guest per year. Central Park has twenty-one official playgrounds, but the park as a whole can be seen as one huge playground during its peak season.

Central Park was the first landscaped public park in the United States. According to Blackmar and Rosenzweig, merchants and landowners argued that New York needed a public park that would offer working-class New Yorkers with a healthy alternative to the saloon, and be a comparable "facility" to establish its international reputation. After debating for three years, the state legislature authorized the City of New York to acquire over 700 acres of land in Manhattan to build the park. The area near the park was undesirable for private development so the city displaces around 1,600 residents which brought the park to 843 acres, which is how big it is now.
